Department of Public Works FAQ

Town of Carver Cemeteries:
DPW Men
  1. Union Cemetery is located on Route #58, 1/2 mile south of Mayflower Road.
  2. Central Cemetery is located on Route #58, 500' south of the town hall in back of the church.
  3. Lakenham Cemetery is located one (1) mile north of Purchase Street, Left on Route #58.
  4. Wenham Cemetery located on Wenham Road Route #44 just northeast of McFarlin Road.
  5. Cemetery Costs and Size:
    • Cemetery lots are sold in 4' x 10' size lots.
    • Plots can be purchased for any number of lots. They are $400 per lot for residents and $600 for non-residents.
    • A grave opening for burial is $350 on weekdays and $400 on weekends and holidays.
    • Placement of cremations is $200 on weekdays and $250 on weekends and holidays.
    • Foundations for headstones and foot markers are $50 per square foot.

Parks
  1. Shurtleff Park a refundable permit may be acquired at the Selectmen's Office at the Town Hall for cookout, concerts, picnics, etc. The department of Public Works will unlock restrooms and supply electrical power if needed at any function and should be notified of any events. The parks will be left clean and trash put in proper receptacles.
  2. Beaches will require Town stickers and these can be obtained at the Fire Station next to the Town Hall for residents only. Non-residents must obtain beach stickers from Town Hall.

DPW Facility

Tree Work
  1. The DPW will take down dead trees. Requirements are if the tree is within 10'feet of edge of roadway depending on county layouts.
  2. Any requests for removal of dead trees must be made at the DPW office at Town Hall.
  3. Large healthy shade trees require a public hearing before removal.
Road Openings
  1. Road opening permits can be obtained at the DPW office for a $45.00 fee. Requirments come with the permit. DPW Truck
  2. Earth Removal Permist can be obtained through the Earth Removal Committee at the Town Hall. The Earth Removal Committee meets the last Wendesday of every month, at the Town Hall in the Selectmen's meeting room.
